SBI Card, a subsidiary of the State Bank of India, has recently announced that a new rule will be implemented from June 1, 2024, affecting all 47 types of credit cards offered by the bank. Under this new rule, SBI cardholders will no longer earn reward points for government transactions categorized under merchant codes 9399 and 9311. This means that only some card users will earn reward points on government-related payments.
The affected cards include AURUM, SBI Card Lite, SBI Card Plus, Simply Click SBI Card, SBI Card Prime, SBI Card Platinum, Gold SBI Card, Simply Save SBI Card, Krishak Unnathi SBI Card, SIB SBI Platinum Card, KVB SBI Card, Karnataka Bank SBI Platinum Card, Allahabad Bank SBI Cards, City Union Bank SBI Cards, Central Bank SBI Cards, UCO Bank SBI Cards, and PSB SBI Cards.
This new rule will have a negative impact on SBI credit card users as they will no longer receive any reward points for government transactions. Meanwhile, other banks such as Yes Bank and IDFC First Bank have also introduced new rules, including extra charges on utility bill payments.
