Telecom companies have surprised mobile users by announcing increased prices for their plans. Reliance Jio announced a price hike for its plans, and the next day, Airtel followed suit with an increase in tariff rates of 11-21 per cent. Airtel’s new rates will come into effect from July 3rd.
The price increase is a result of the recently concluded spectrum auction process. Airtel mentioned that the price increase on entry-level plans is less than 70 paise per day and won’t significantly impact users. The company had previously raised recharge prices by 20-25 per cent in November 2021.
Here are the details of the new rates:
- The Rs.179 unlimited voice plan, offering 2GB data, unlimited calls, and 100 SMS per day for 28 days, will now cost Rs.199 from July 3rd. The 84-day validity plan priced at Rs.455 has been increased to Rs.509, and the 365-day plan has increased from Rs.1799 to Rs.1999.
- Data plans have also been affected. The 28-day validity, 1GB per day, unlimited calls, and 100 SMS per day plan, previously priced at Rs.265, will now cost Rs.299. The 56-day validity pack, previously priced at Rs.399, has been increased to Rs.449, and the 84-day plan, previously priced at Rs.719, will now cost Rs.859.
- Add-on data plans have also seen price hikes. For example, a 1GB data plan with one-day validity now costs Rs.22, up from Rs.19.
Similar adjustments have been made to the prices of postpaid plans as well.
These changes will likely impact consumers and result in higher costs for mobile services.
